Medieval Castles and Fortified Churches

Key attractions:
Bran Castle – also known as Dracula’s Castle, a legendary Transylvanian fortress dating back to 1377;
Rasnov Peasant Citadel – the largest peasant fortification ever built in Eastern Europe;
Brasov City tour – explore the Medieval Saxon city of Brasov with its outstanding medieval atmosphere, one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe;
Sighisoara – one of the few inhabited fortified cities in Europe that attracts visitors from all over the world;
Huniazilor Castle from Hunedoara – with high and diversely colored roofs, towers, windows and balconies adorned with laces from carvings in stone;
Deva’s citadel built a top of a mountain, a natural volcanic truncated cone, dominating the surroundings;
Sibiu – a fortified town that has been the centre of Romania’s German minority since medieval times; nowadays one of Romania’s most beautiful cities;
Curtea de Arges Monastery – the royal Romanian necropolis.
 Itinerary
 Day 1
               Meet at the airport. Bucharest sightseeing tour. Traditional Romanian dinner.
 Day 2


After breakfast drive to Bran. Visit Dracula’s Castle in Bran village. Drive to Brasov. A short top to Rasnov and visit the largest peasant fortification ever built in Eastern Europe. Arrive to Brasov.

Day 3
            Brasov city tour including the Old Town Square, the Black Church and the St Nicholas Church. Drive to Prejmer – a Saxon village famous for its peasant fortifications listed by UNESCO as part of the World Cultural Heritage. Continue to the medieval town of Sighisoara, the birth place of Prince Vlad the Impaler. Enjoy the medieval charm of the fortified town – best preserved in Europe – while visiting the History Museum located in the Clock Tower and the Weapons Museum.
 Day 4
 


Drive to Biertani village for a visit of the fortified church, the former seat of the Lutheran Bishop of Transylvania, a landmark on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage. Continue our trip driving to Medias. Visit the Medias citadel dating from the 15th century. Heading to the city of Targu Mures. Visit the citadel the Cultural Palace and the Roman-Catholic Church   
  Day 5 
         Excursion to Cheile Turzii, natural reservation situated in the Apuseni Mountains with an impressive landscape. Admiring the surroundings and having picnic. Drive to Deva. 
 Day 6 
           Climb to the Deva citadel (optional). Drive to Hunedoara. Visit the Huniazilor Castle. Drive to Hateg – visit the Dinosaurs Museum. Continue the journey going to Prislop. Stop at the Prislop monastery – one of the oldest monasteries in Romania dating from the beginning of the15th century. Going back to Hateg. 
 Day 7 
            Drive to Densus. Stop and visit the fortified church of Densus. Heading to the Gradistea Muncelului – Cioclovina National Park. Archeological tour. Walk to the forest. Drive to Sibiu.  Dinner (local food).
 Day 8
            Sibiu city tour including the Brukenthal Museum and the Astra Village Museum. Drive to the village of Cristian. Stop at the fortified church. Continue the journey. Another stop in Cisnadie at the Evangelic Church. Way back to Bucharest on the Olt Valley. Short stop at the Cozia Monastery – picnic and sightseeing.
 Day 9
            Way back to Bucharest. Special dinner (optional).
 Day 10
             Return in the country of origin.
