Itinerary:
Day 1 (Sa.): Arrival
in Bucharest - City tour in Bucharest (50 km)Meeting with the English speaking guide at the airport/ railway station in Bucharest and transfer to the hotel in Bucharest. After a refreshing break follows the city tour with the visit of Bucharest's main touristic attractions: Press House, the Kisselef boulevard, the Arch of Triumph, Victory Square, the Victory’s Boulevard, Revolution Square, the Cotroceni Palace, the Palace of Parliament and of course the old streets like the Lipscani Street. Dinner with Romanian specialties.
Day 2 (Su.): Bucharest - Ploiesti - Sinaia - Brasov (190 km)
After visiting the Palace of Parliament, the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon we head north towards Brasov. On our way we will see the well known oil fields in Ploiesti. For lunch we stop in Sinaia. After lunch we visit the summer residence of the Romanian royal family. A modern palace built at the end at the 19th century is the main attraction in Sinaia. The kings were Prussian Germans from the Hohenzoller von Singmaringen family. In the afternoon we arrive in Brasov. Dinner and accommodation in the City of the Crown.
Day 3 (Mo.): The Medieval City of Brasov and Citadels of the Bârsa Land (60 km)
After breakfast we begin our city tour in Brasov (almost 3 hours by foot). You get to see the main touristic features of this medieval city inside the Carpathian Arch: The Council Hall, the Black Church (inside visitation included), the Weaver's Bastion, the Black and the White Tower, the Schei quarter etc. Lunch break in the old center of the city. In the afternoon we drive to Bran to visit Dracula's Castle. Dinner in Brasov with Transylvanian-Saxon specialties.
Day 4 (Tu.): Fortified churches and citadels in the Carpathian Arch - the gateway to Moldavia (310 km)
After breakfast we head north-east. First we visit the fortified church in Prejmer- the most important and best preserved fortified church in Transylvania. After a short walk on the battlement parapet and after seeing the famous "Death Organ" we are invited to drink a cup of coffee and to eat a piece of cake at one of the local families.
Next we pass through Miercurea Ciuc and Gheorgheni in order to get to Moldavia, to the city of Piatra Neamt. We vist the Agapia monastery, the largest nuns' monastery in Romania. Here the church still has unique fresco on the inside. Accommodation for 2 nights in Manastirea Humorului.
Day 5 (We.): UNESCO-World Cultural Heritage in Bukowina: Humor - Voronet - Sucevita - Moldovita (210 km)
After breakfast we visit the UNESCO- Monasteries in Bucovina, also named the Moldavian Monasteries. First we see the Voronet Monastery "The Sixteen Chapel of the East in blue", one of the best preserved monasteries of the 15th century with frescos. Next we see the Moldovita monastery where one of the nuns is going to tell us more about the everyday life of the nuns at the monastery. Next we go to Sucevita, the "Pearl of the Moldavian Monasteries" and to the ceramics workshop from Marginea. In the afternoon we visit the Monastery in Humor, founded by a noble family. Dinner at the pension
Day 6 (Th.): Gura Humorului – Bistrita – Sighisoara (270 km)
In the morning we cross the Carpathians until we reach Transylvania. We make a city tour of Bistrita, a medieval city from the 12th century. After lunch we drive to Sighisoara (Schässburg). We visit the city and see the main touristic objectives of the so called "Rothenburg ob der Taube from Transylvania": the Clock Tower, the Covered Staircase, Dracula's birth house etc. Dinner in Dracula's birth house. Overnight in Sighisoara.
Day 7 (Fr.): Sighisoara - Biertan - Medias - Sibiu (110 km)
First we will visit the fortified church in Biertan, which used o be the Bishops' residence for more than 300 years. We will also see old Pharmacy. We head towards Medias. This is the birth place of Hermann Oberth (the father of space-flight program Appollo 13). City tour of the European Capital of Culture 2007 – Sibiu. We will visit, among others the Evangelical Church, the Council Tower, The large and the Small Square, the Liars' Bridge, the Peasants' Market etc. Dinner & accommodation in Sibiu.
Day 8 (Sa.): Sibiu - Bucharest; Return Voyage (290 km)
After breakfast we drive through the Olt Valley and through the city of Pitesti to the airport/ train station in Bucharest. Here you say goodbye to the guide. Return voyage.
