Day 1 – Bucharest - Targoviste - Bran ( 200km )
In the
morning departure to Targoviste, the capital of Wallachia during the
times of Vlad Tepes. The first royal court was built by prince Mircea the Old,
the grandfather of Dracula, and then he added the tower "Chindia" (Turnul
Chindiei). Targoviste remembers the day when the boyars were called to a party
in town and they were asked if they wanted to be relieved from their
difficulties. As their answer was affirmative Vlad burnt them all so that no
one would have to suffer anymore.
Afterwards
departure to Bran, the village that hides the most famous castle in Romania
- Dracula's Castle, built by the Teutonic Knights at the beginning of the
XIIIth century to defend the Rucar-Bran pass, a very strategic commericial way.
Visit of the castle, a real vampire count castle, full of labyrinths,
staircases and secret passages, with its courtyard where we can still imagine
the impaled bodies in agony, while the prince used to have dinner (one of his
habits).
Traditional
dinner in Bran and overnight in a 3* country resort located near Dracula´s castle with
beautiful mountain views.
Day 2 – Bran - Brasov - Sighisoara ( 150km )
In the
morning we will climb a hill to visit the Rasnov citadel from the XIIIth
century founded by German craftsmen and merchants, called the Saxons in
Transylvania. Afterwards we will visit the charming Saxon village of Viscri
with its beautiful citadel protected by Unesco from the XVI-th century.
We continue
to Sighisoara, a fortified citadel in the heart of Transylvania,
inhabited from theXIIIth century till now. Sighisoara is also the birthplace of
Prince Vlad Tepes - Dracula, whose name derives from the Order of the Dragon
and because of the similarity of the two words in Romanian (dragon = drac=
dracula)
Dinner in
the house where Dracula was born, a typical medieval restaurant and overnight
in Sighisoara 3* hotel in the citadel.
Day 3 - Sighisoara - Biertan - Brasov ( 150km )
In the
morning visit of the citadel of Sighisoara, surrounded by 7 towers with
the most famous - the Clock Tower. Afterwards departure to Biertan - one of
the largest fortified churches, which was the seat of the episcopate in
Transylvania. The fortified cities and villages of Transylvania recall the
periods of Turkish and Tartar attacks that have faced the Romanian principles
(including Prince Vlad Tepes in the Xvth century.)
Arrival in
the evening in Brasov, "the Crown city" as it is called. Panoramic
tour of the historic center of Brasov: the Council Square, the Black Church,
the White Tower, the Black Tower, the Ecaterina Gate and the Schei Gate that
separated the Romanians from the Saxons during the Austro-Hungarian domination.
Typical dinner and overnight in Brasov nice 3* hotel in a central area.
Day 4 - Brasov - Bran - Bucharest ( 200km )
Departure
early in the morning and return to the capital, Bucharest. Visit of the
resort of Sinaia with its beautiful monastery, that gave the name of the
station and the most beautiful royal castle in Romania - the Peles Castle,
from the times of King Carol I of Romania. Then we cross all the tourist
resorts on the Prahova Valley (Predeal - the highest in the Carpathians, Azuga-
where there are the royal wine cellars, Busteni-famous for its cable car taking
you to the natural monuments The Sphinx and the Old Ladies).
On the way
stop at the Snagov Lake near Bucharest, where in the center there in a
small island, with a small monastery in which Dracula was buried in 1476.
During an archaeological research in 1930, there were found only horse bones in
the tomb. Where is the body? Has Dracula found his peace? ... Transfer to
the airport and departure back home.
